It is a program designed to link the public, local businesses and the government within a welfare spirit. Its main objective is to promote in the population a culture of participation in activities aimed at social assistance, which serve as a basis for the reconstruction of the social fabric of the place where it is implemented. It succeeds in creating a more participatory society in government actions. It also manages to raise awareness among young people to provide their time for the benefit of vulnerable groups; making young people feel part of their community and facilitating the social integration of sectors of society.
Undoubtedly, adolescence is where a person begins to be more aware of things, and is the beginning to reach adulthood and face the problems of life; In this sense, the program teaches young people to know other people’s problems and helps them find solutions to solve them.
The ecosystem of Change your time creates the supply and demand for the group of young people and the local companies of the place where it starts. First, it offers activities and / or social assistance events, through an exchange of time. This strategy changes the lives of young people between 16 and 25 years of age, because by participating they understand the importance of helping their peers, especially the population that needs it most, such as girls and boys, adolescents; disabled, women and senior citizens, in addition to their work is for the benefit of all families. The activities can be as simple as helping a person carry their super bags or accompany the elderly in retirement homes by doing different activities with them, such as feeding or dancing.
Young people who enroll in this program are part of the Change Your Time database and as they carry out their activities, they will receive monthly support at points equivalent to money that allows them to change their balance for clothing, books, records and musical instruments, among many. The biggest advantage is that this point system is managed by a centralized system that allows integrated companies to be the true recipients of this benefit that young people receive. Since it is not the young man who receives the money from the government, but the companies that sell the service or product to the young person. This prevents young people from using the money to buy drugs or alcohol, just buying only what these companies offer that must sign an agreement with the agency that implements it to be part of the system.
This project has been implemented in several places and has supported populations over 3 million people. Its implementation is a moderately complicated challenge, however, the results are immediate and generate a very positive social dynamic in the governments that undertake it. Contrary to what might be assumed, this program is very economical in its implementation, programming and updating of infrastructure, but focuses all its spending on what really matters that are the supports that go to young people through companies. We have had great success with its establishment that we have even achieved in some cases become part of a Local Law.
